The MHA Self-Help coordinator responds to requests for information about self-help groups that exist locally as well as nationally. In addition, he gives technical assistance to people in Ulster County who are willing to start self-help groups. This service is designed to aid residents of Ulster county who can identify their mental health needs but are not eligible for services, needs support in conjunction with services or simply cannot be served due to an overburdened system. The coordinator also maintains and updates listings of contact numbers in area newspapers so that residents can easily access information on self-help groups that meet locally.
